Mahatma Gandhi said: "One can measure the
greatness of a nation and its moral progress
by the way it treats its animals."

In many cultures, cows are seen as sacred
and revered for their gentle nature.

Contrary to popular belief, cows are very
intelligent animals, have good memories and
the ability to problem-solve.  If a calf dies or is
forcibly taken away, the mother will grieve and
cry actual tears.  By contrast, cows also
express joy–-literally, kicking up their heels-–
when happy.  Like us, they also love music
and will come running to hear a performance
in a field.

If you've ever known a cow or gazed into the
eyes of one, you already know what I'm talking
about.  If you've never had the privilege,
I would wish this for you – that you might have
a few moments to sit quietly with a cow and
look deeply into her/his eyes.

The first in a series called 'Holy Cow',
this artwork honors the Divine in these
sentient beings.
