April 23, 2012: A fun afternoon in the 'hood.
I'm starting to appreciate the appeal of
plein-air painting. With so much to learn,
it's thrilling when several 'discoveries'
come along at one time!
Pros and cons of painting inside a car on
a very windy day – Pros: you're sheltered from
the elements, no running after things being
blown away, no dust and bugs landing in your
paint, etc; Cons – it's a little cramped, and you
have to be very mindful of not spilling paint
on the upholstery.
Those revelations aside, I'm elated about
some personal painting epiphanies I had
today with regards to color, order of layering,
etc. as it pertains to capturing our beautiful red
rocks...little 'a-ha' moments that made me
giddy. I love when that happens. Hopefully, the
lessons learned will be apparent in future
red rock paintings.
Back in March, I painted the 'Rabbit Ears'
as seen from our backyard. This is the same
rock formation, from a different location.
