April 24, 2012: There's nothing like the big
skies of Arizona (except for, maybe, the big
skies of New Mexico or Texas).
One minute, the sky is brilliant, clear blue;
then, as desert's building tide, waves
of clouds roll in. Often, you can watch
them take form within seconds.
Those who can sit for a spell are rewarded
with dreamy shadows of blue and purple
dancing softly across irregular shapes of red,
tan and green. The best show on earth!
Time shifts. Now, the sun's spotlight
is 'over there' (to your left).
Blink once...it's shifted to envelope you
in warm, golden rays directly overhead.
Blink again...left in shadow, the solar focus is
now in the distance, miles away to your right.
Like watching those lava lamps in the 60s,
hypnotic shapes appear, and then recede.
For a minute, it looked a little 'monsoon-y'
out there. But maybe I was just dreaming.
