March 23, 2012: Fresh-cut sunflowers
from the market today. Once in a vase, my thoughts went to a particular song I'd listened to over and over, years ago. Funny how your mind can instantly take you places you've not visited in a long time. Memories of a 33rpm LP, playing on a portable record player—mono (no stereo yet). When necessary, a couple of pennies placed strategically on the arm, directly over the needle in order to give it enough weight so certain records wouldn't skip. Listening to one side; then, flipping it over, and listening to the other side. Repeat over and over and over. And, while I know sunflowers don't really follow the sun, I couldn't help singing this song, over and over, while I painted...from Beatles '65 (or Beatles For Sale): "I'll Follow The Sun". |
