March 25, 2012: I walk by this
wall sculpture many times each day. Sculpted in pine, using chisels I hand-forged myself, for a 2002 exhibit about aging at Coconino Center for the Arts, it is a mandala of my left and right ears, joined together in a heart shape. The sculpture is titled 'Listening To My Heart' and was created in response to my loss of hearing. Today, I needed to remind myself that there are many ways 'to hear'; so, I decided to use the sculpture as a still-life from which to paint. |
