March 26, 2012: Locals call this view
from our backyard the 'Rabbit Ears'. Like a quiet sentry, it's one of the first things I see when I look outside. It's a good hour's hike to get to the bottom of the hill. From there, it's a steep uphill trek over uneven ground that continuously moves and slides underneath, just to get to the base of the towering rock. Rappellers sometimes have to be rescued from the top. Bette Davis would have said it's 'not for sissies'. I love that it can be seen from miles away... for me, it's a touchstone for home. |
